INTERNSHIPS WITH EXECUTIVES
I interned/shadowed two executives that are fairly local to the Cedar City area in order to get a deeper understanding of what they do and ultimately to find what appeals to me more. Each of these internships provided me with hands on experience in various career fields that I am interested in. These internships were very unique since it is not just an everyday thing to shadow an executive at their place of work.

Reflection
For my EDGE Project at SUU I shadowed the CFO of State Bank of Southern Utah, Dave Eberhard, for a couple of days to learn more about what responsibilities and duties he performs. This shadowing took place while the FDIC Auditors were auditing the bank, so this experience allowed me to see how the auditors and the CFO interact together as well as to see what the auditors do while they are on site.
I also interned with Steve Bradbury, the Mortgage Manger at State Bank of Southern Utah. I completed a wide variety of projects that allowed me to apply the things that I am learning at SUU into the workplace. One of the projects that I worked on was to re-create the SBSU Mortgage Center website. I also creating new mortgage loan coupons in order to process mortgage payments more efficiently and accurately. This project also allowed me to work with Kirk Jones, the Operations Manager as well as the IT Department at SBSU. The final project that I worked on was to generate a report that will create monthly mortgage statements for all of the mortgage loans that State Bank of Southern Utah services. All of these projects were amongst my daily activities of funding new mortgage loans. With each loan I needed to calculate which fees go into each of the various accounts and generate a history as a tangible trail of how I calculated the amount and exactly where it was disbursed. This gave me valuable hands on experience by using Excel as well as various other audit and accounting practices that I have learned. As part of my training for the internship, I also participated in a Fred Pryor training entitled Excel: Beyond the Basics.
By participating in these internships I learned more about the banking system, I also was able to apply my knowledge of Excel and to see it grow as I worked with it every day. I also applied my knowledge of accounting and audit and could see how it is was applied within the bank. I saw how these executives that I was around interacted with others and managed those around them. I have always been interested in banking and by performing this internship it has provided me with the opportunity to meet many different people from within the bank and to make an impression that hopefully will help to further my career in the future.
